001 / The object

The pizza
you hang,
not the one
you eat

An illustrated sleeve, the 12″ pressing made for it, and the wall mount. Six flavours, one numbered run. Nothing is cut into the disc: this is a picture you hang, not a thing you play.

It arrives in a real pizza box, which is how it reaches you rather than what it is. No payment now: this page only asks whether the first batch is worth printing.

Four things
in a takeaway
box

The box is how it arrives, not the punchline. Inside are four parts, and each one exists so the record can get from the doorstep to the wall on the same day.

Margherita sleeve: the pizzaiolo in front of the wood-fired oven

Pizza box lid: a pizzaiolo in front of a wood-fired oven, in a red checked border
Pizza Vinile · handle with care
  • 01

    The box

Kraft corrugated · 33 cm · four colours

A real pizza box, printed inside and out. It arrives sealed with the sticker, as if it had just been delivered. The instructions for hanging the record are printed on the inside of the lid, so there is no leaflet to lose.

  • 02

    The sleeve

    330 × 330 mm · printed board

Inside, a jacket with the illustration blown up across the front. It is the cover of the record, and it is also what protects the disc in the post.

  • 03

    The record

    12″ · 305 mm · 180 g

Out of the sleeve, the pressing itself, with the flavour's own pizza drawn on the label. What tells one from the next is that drawing and the colour of the vinyl, mixed in the press.

  • 04

    The wall mount

Included · no frame, no glass

A mount in the box, so the record goes up the same day it arrives. The disc stays visible for what it is.

Note. In the first run the record is a graphic object: there is no audio cut into it. A genuinely playable pressing is the first stretch goal, and if enough people want it we make it.

003 / The flavours

Six flavours,
six records

The series is the part that only exists here: each flavour gets its own sleeve, its own artwork and its own colour of vinyl, and the six carry one numbering across the whole run. In the form below you can say which one you would want first, and we start by printing the most voted ones.

    MARGHERITAPIZZA VINILE RECORDSSIDE A33⅓ RPMSTEREO

    Margherita

    The first pressing

The original illustration of the project, printed on the sleeve and on the box: pizzaiolo, wood-fired oven, a margherita going in. The pressing under it is classic black, 180 g.

4 FORMAGGIPIZZA VINILE RECORDSSIDE A33⅓ RPMSTEREO

    Quattro Formaggi

    White, marbled

No tomato anywhere. Cream and butter marbled vinyl, swirled as it is pressed, so no two copies come out of the machine the same.

    MARINARAPIZZA VINILE RECORDSSIDE B33⅓ RPMSTEREO

    Marinara

    The poorest, the hardest

004 / Method

First we ask,
then we print

A batch of illustrated records, sleeves and custom boxes costs a fair amount to put into production. We would rather find out now whether this amuses you as much as it amuses us.

  1. We gather interest

This page sells nothing. You leave an email and the flavour you would want, and that is it: no card, no commitment.

  2. Target: 500 people

Below 500 expressions of interest the project does not start, and we write to tell you so. That is the number that makes a serious print order sustainable.

  3. One single batch

Once we hit the target we open the real campaign, at the prices below. One numbered run gets printed: when it is gone, it is gone.

007 / Questions

What people
always ask

01Can the record actually be played?

Not in the first run: it is a graphic object made to hang on a wall. A version with a real cut is the first stretch goal, and anyone who already ordered can upgrade.

02Hasn't this been done before?

The pizza box has, yes. Horse the Band put their Pizza EP out in a screen-printed pizza box in 2006, 550 numbered copies, and pizza-shaped picture discs turn up most Record Store Days. We did not invent putting a record in a pizza box, and that is not where this sits: ours has no audio on it at all. It is a wall object that comes with its mount, in a series of six flavours pressed as one numbered run. The box is how it reaches you, not what it is.

03What size is it?

A 12″ record (30.5 cm) in a 33×33 cm sleeve, inside a 33 cm pizza box. These are the standard measurements of a takeaway pizza, and that is the whole point.

04Am I paying anything now?

No. This page collects expressions of interest and nothing else. Payments only exist if and when we open the real campaign, and at that point you can take your time deciding.

05When would it arrive?

If we reach 500 interested people we open the campaign, and from the moment it closes it takes about three months to press the records, print the sleeves and die-cut the boxes.

06Do you ship outside Italy?

Yes, anywhere in the European Union with a €9 surcharge. Outside the EU we are still doing the maths: write it in the form, it helps us decide.

07Can I suggest a flavour that is not there?

Gladly. The notes field in the form exists exactly for that: if a suggestion comes up often enough, it joins the series.
